Payroll review
Griffith University takes pay compliance seriously and is committed to accurately compensating all employees for their valuable work.
In response to concerns across the Higher Education sector, Griffith commenced a review of its payroll systems and processes in March 2022. Some process and procedural issues were identified that resulted in underpayment for some employees.
Griffith proactively notified the Fair Work Ombudsman and has undertaken a program of work to rectify the situation. All affected current employees and all affected former employees who can be contacted have been repaid with interest. The University has also investigated payroll system enhancements to ensure appropriate controls are in place to monitor and rectify issues moving forward.
In June 2025, the University entered into an Enforceable Undertaking with the Fair Work Ombudsman, which includes committing to undertake a number of activities to ensure ongoing compliance, such as training and education, process streamlining and system improvements.
The University apologises unreservedly to employees who have not been paid appropriately.
