Course Convenor options
If the Course Convenor concludes on the basis of the student's written and/or verbal response, the nature of the concerns, the intent of the student and the student's experience that a breach has occurred, they may choose one or more of the following Tier 1 Educational Responses:
- give the student a warning
- require the student to seek appropriate study skills advice from a Learning Adviser (see further information below)
- require the student to undertake the Academic Integrity Student Tutorial within one month of receiving the letter advising them to do so
- allocate a mark for the student's assessment item based on the portion of the assessment item that is unaffected by the academic misconduct
- allow the student to resubmit the assessment item to achieve a mark no higher than a "pass" mark
- require the student to undertake supplementary assessment
- escalate the case to the appropriate Dean (Learning and Teaching)
Dean (Learning and Teaching) options
If the Dean (Learning and Teaching) determines that a student has a case to answer then they may choose one or more of the Tier 1 Educational Responses above or from the Tier 2 Educational Responses or Penalties below:
Tier 2 Educational Responses
- require the student to exclude the affected work from an honours/postgraduate coursework dissertation/thesis
- require the student to rewrite an honours/postgraduate coursework dissertation/thesis
- impose a penalty in the form of a nil mark for the assessment item affected by the academic misconduct
- impose a penalty in the form of a fail grade for the course in which the academic misconduct occurred
- impose a penalty in the form of exclusion from the University
