The Learning@Griffith team provide some Microsoft Excel toolbars to quickly and accurately move marks from the Mark Centre spreadsheet into the Marks Entry Spreadsheet System (MESS).

You should ensure that your version of the toolbar is up-to-date - if you are using an older version you may encounter bugs that have already been fixed in the newest version of the toolbar.  Usually, the toolbar will uninstall itself from your Excel automatically, and when you need to use it again you can download the latest version below.  If you have a very old version we may need to help you uninstall it - contact us if you suspect this is the case.

Where do the spreadsheets come from?

  • Your MESS spreadsheet is usually emailed to you by your School Administrative Officer, or Program Services Officer.
  • Your Mark Centre spreadsheet can be downloaded at any time from Learning@Griffith.

Moving Mark Centre to MESS: MESS Toolbar

This toolbar is for copying marks between the MESS spreadsheet and a downloaded Mark Centre spreadsheet. Download the appropriate toolbar, save it to your computer, and double-click to open it.  You can safely click the buttons to trust the content, or to Enable Macros - two options that may be presented to you during the install process.

For further instructions on using the toolbar, follow the help guide: Using the Mess Toolbar

Excel via Office 365 Issue:

If you are using Excel via Office 365, especially the version in the web browser, the Mess Toolbar macros will not work. You will need to use a freestanding Excel program (or the Office suite of programs which includes Excel).

Mac Users -

Active X error issue:
Just after you enable macros you see - "This workbook contains content that is not supported by Excel for Mac 2011 - ActiveX". This message presents the option of opening the file as "read only", or cancelling.

To resolve this issue:
1. open the file in read-only mode
2. save the file, and close it
3. reopen it.
