Mandatory Training
Staff at Griffith must complete the required mandatory training for their role. Mandatory training helps ensure that Griffith University can meet the legal, social, and institutional responsibilities so that staff are provided with a safe and healthy work environment.
This page provides information on the mandatory training required at Griffith, and outlines which courses must be undertaken and when. It also provides several recommended training courses available to staff. Please note that some of the recommended training courses may be mandatory based on your role, and some roles may require additional training not listed here. Please discuss with your manager if you are unsure of what additional training may be required for your role.
All staff training can be accessed via our Learning Management System Canvas unless otherwise specified.
Mandatory Training for all staff
The following training courses are mandatory for all staff. This includes staff who are part-time, casual, internal contractors, and visiting and adjunct staff, unless otherwise specified in the notes.

This module forms part of our Integrity Program and offers training designed to build your awareness and understanding of what constitutes fraud and corruption, as well as the standards of behaviour Griffith expects from all staff. It also shows several workplace scenarios of fraudulent and conflicts of interest situations which will help equip you with the skills to identify and report concerns. | Annually | Integrity, Legal Services |
Code of Conduct - 30 min Completing the module is one way we can work together to promote a workplace that is professional, respectful, safe, inclusive and productive for staff and students. NOTE. Only continuing and fixed term staff are required to complete this training, while it being recommended for casuals. | Annually | Human Resources |

Chemical Safety – 1 hour Understand your responsibilities and obligations, chemical hazard classification, storage requirements, and general work practices required when using chemicals in the workplace, and who to contact for assistance. | Those who work with laboratory chemicals | 2 years |
Radiation Safety – 1 hour Required for anyone working with ionising radiation such as devices that emit radiation or radioactive sources. | Those who use radiation devices or radioactive sources | Annually |
Laser Safety – 30 min Increase understanding of lasers, and to enable users to identify and control laser hazards including selecting appropriate personal protective equipment. | Those who use or intend to use lasers | 2 years |

The following training courses are recommended for staff. These courses are designed to be useful for most staff however are not mandated to be completed on a recurring basis.

Information Management – 1 hour This module is designed to help staff improve their awareness and understanding of information management. It outlines your responsibilities as a University staff member, and provides you with foundational knowledge on which to build your information management skills. Wellbeing for Work & Life – 1 hour Provides information and resources to support wellbeing. This module covers Griffith University's wellbeing culture, how to manage personal mental health and wellbeing and steps to improve physical health, along with tips on supporting others. |
Equal Opportunity Online - 2 hours total These four modules are designed to increase your awareness of discrimination and harassment issues, and inform you of your responsibilities under Griffith Policy and the law. Modules 1 to 3 are suitable for all staff to complete and will cover:

Sustainability Awareness - 10 minutes This module gives a snapshot of Griffith’s sustainability commitment and offers information on how you can contribute. |
Recognise. Respond. Refer. - 30 minutes This module is part of our Safe Campuses approach and provides information on how to recognize the signs of personal violence and disrespectful behaviour, respond with empathy to a disclosure, and refer to support and reporting services at or external to Griffith. |
Practical information on the mechanisms of workplace injury including pain and injury management . It also gives guidance on manual handling and the key aspects of workstation adjustment and injury prevention. |
Manual Tasks/Office Ergonomics - 20-30 min Covers hazards, risks and the risk management process; how to reduce the chance of injuries; and helping staff work safely at Griffith University. |

This resource contains guidance and supporting information for managers / other Griffith staff members who are responsible for onboarding new starters. It is designed to enable you to create a positive onboarding experience for your new starter, so that they feel welcomed, informed and equipped for their new role. This document is not designed to be exhaustive, so please keep in mind the local-level onboarding activities that will also need to take place to supplement the activities outlined in this document.

This guide is designed to support you as you onboard into your new role at Griffith. It outlines key activities you should complete in your first few weeks, and serves as a reference point for information and links that will be useful throughout your time as a Griffith employee.
Troubleshooting
I have completed my onboarding training but am receiving regular reminder emails
Onboarding task reminder emails are sent when there are tasks left in your onboarding module that you have not manually marked as complete. If you have completed your onboarding training please navigate to 'My Staff Page' and open your 'Employee Onboarding' module and mark any outstanding tasks as complete by selecting the task in the left-hand navigation menu, and then clicking on the 'Mark Task Complete' button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Once all tasks have been marked as complete you will no longer receive reminder notifications.

Operations and Systems (People Services)
Our People Services Team are the first point of contact for University staff for all general Human Resources enquiries including those related to leave, pay, change of details, casual and sessional engagements, and superannuation. Our service team is available Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
