Travel will not be approved

To areas classified 'Do not travel' or 'Reconsider your need to travel' by DFAT. See section 1.8 of Travel Policy

Consider advice

The advice contained in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade warnings must be followed. If in doubt, the Australian Government provides 24-hour consular assistance. Call +61 2 6261 3305 from overseas, 1300 555 135 from within Australia or +61 421 269 080 for SMS.

Travel insurance

Travel will not be approved if insurance cover is not available.  For enquiries regarding travel insurance cover, please contact the Insurance and Risk Management Office.

Travel exceptions

Travel for staff and students will not be approved to areas under the current Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade warnings ‘Do not travel’ or ‘Reconsider your need to travel’. In exceptional circumstances, staff may make a case for approval through their Head of Element as follows:

  • for academic staff and students, the Academic Provost may approve on recommendation of the Group Prov Vice Chancellor
  • for general staff, the Vice President (Corporate Services) may approve on recommendation of either relevant Group Pro Vice Chancellor or Office Director.

General advice

In preparing for overseas travel, you should do the following:

  • organise comprehensive travel insurance and check what circumstances and activities are not covered by your policy. Staff members travelling on Griffith University business are automatically covered under the University corporate travel insurance.
  • register your travel and contact details with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade so they can contact you in an emergency.
  • subscribe to Smart Traveller's free email updates to receive travel advice updates for your destinations.

Travel Policy

The University's travel policy applies to both staff and students and outlines the conditions under which staff and students travel on University business. This policy ensures staff members and students travelling on official duty have appropriate levels of accommodation, travel and financial assistance.
