Campus Life (CLF) has collaborated with Information Services (INS) to implement the Space Utilisation Project. The aim of this project is to improve space utilisation reporting in order to facilitate more effective forecasting and reporting of space usage throughout the University.
Space utilisation forecasting and reporting is a key strategic requirement to ensure any physical or electronic infrastructure investment (new build, refurbishment or repurposing) aligns with the University's strategic priorities.
Currently reporting information is provided by manual audits which are run several times throughout the year to form a picture of the utilisation of various types of facilities across the university. A critical metric captured is the number of students using Teaching Spaces (Lecture Theatres, Seminar Rooms, Computer Rooms and Specialised Spaces). Utilisation reports are then generated and used by the University Executive to assist in shaping the future space requirements and to forecast capital building works and refurbishments.
This project will provide a higher degree of accuracy, timeliness and detail to audit outcomes and reporting by:
- Reducing the degree of manual processing currently involved with conducting space audits (head counts) by delivering automated counting technologies in teaching spaces
- Integrating Syllabus Plus booking data with the CLF Space Reporting Tool to enhance the information provided in the Space Utilisation Reports. Syllabus Plus is required to reflect all bookings (teaching and ad hoc) that occur in teaching spaces, including school/department owned rooms.
There is currently a lot of work being done to install these automated counting technologies in our teaching spaces. Click here to view the current camera installation schedule. To view Griffith University's Closed Circuit Television and Surveillance Policy, click here.
