Griffith University is committed to providing first aid support, facilities and supplies to ensure care is available to staff, student, visitors and contractors in emergencies. The information provided and the links to further resources aim to give practical guidance to achieving prompt and effective first aid outcomes.

How to become a first aid officer

Choose an external provider of my choice / up front payment

Approved Registered First Aid Officers can book and pay upfront via credit card (Department Corporate or personal credit card)

Costs of the training will be refunded as part of the acquittal process using the Finance System Concur .

NOTE: Funding is provided from a central fund and refunds are capped at $160 for a Provide First Aid (including CPR) and $80 for CPR renewal training and anything above this amount will be at the Department or Individuals expense.

We recommend a number of external providers you can book your training through as a starting point.

External Providers

Choose a Nationally-accredited provider who offer First Aid/ CPR training and assessment to standards established by the Industry Skills Council and Australian Department of Education, Science and Training. All courses should be nationally recognised under the National Health Training Package HLT07:

First Aid Training for all other Staff and Students

It is the student's responsibility to meet the costs of an accredited First Aid/ CPR course if this is a requirement to be Fit for Professional Practice. Nationally-accredited providers offer First Aid/ CPR training and assessment to standards established by the Industry Skills Council and Australian Department of Education, Science and Training and some of these include:

Some staff may need to maintain their qualifications or as part of a role requirement. You should attend a course run by Registered Training Organisation (RTO). All courses should be nationally recognised under the National Health Training Package HLT07.

It is the Element’s responsibility to meet the costs of an accredited First Aid/ CPR course for staff who are not approved registered first aid officers, please seek approval before enrolling in a course with the relevant budget authority in your area.
