The student learning experience

Griffith's Learning and Teaching spaces are equipped with essential and innovative technologies, which play a central role in the interaction between lecturers and their students.

Lecture theatres

As part of the Lecture Theatre Upgrade project, the following rooms now have Lecture Capture capability—allowing lectures to be recorded.

Recordings are available to students as audio and movie files which can be downloaded via Learning@Griffith.

COMPUTER LABS

Computer labs are available across all campuses of the University. These labs are identified as either:

  • common-use computer labs: available for all students. Some of these labs are available 24/7. Other common-use computers are available in the library - see  Student computing.
  • school-based computers: available to students who have specialist computing needs relevant to their study area. The school provides access to labs such as Windows or Mac labs (or dual-boot). Obtain information about access to these computers from the school or department lab owner.

General help and resources

  • computer assistance: for general assistance with computers, see the IT Service Centre to find support options
  • audiovisual equipment: for assistance with projectors and other lab equipment, please consult audiovisual support

Software in computer labs

Griffith uses standardised software for general use among teachers and students. The LanSchool Classroom Management software is an exception as this has separate student and teacher versions. For software support, please see the pages below:

  • standard software support: includes self-help resources for select Microsoft Office applications, Google Apps, Dreamweaver, Social Media and general computing skills
  • LanSchool Teacher version: provides and overview and help guide for teaching staff for using LanSchool

Student support

Common-use lab support provides student-oriented information on computer labs.

LanSchool

LanSchool is a Classroom Management application that is available in select Student Computer Labs (soon to be rolled out more broadly) across the University. It offers a number of features such as:

  • Screen sharing between teacher and class (e.g. for demonstration purposes, particularly when the projector is difficult to see or there is no projector in the room)
  • Screen sharing of selected student computer with class (chosen by teacher; for student demonstrations)
  • Monitoring of student computers by teacher (for large classes, this can help identify at-a-glance if anyone is having difficulties)
  • Sending files to students for use in class
  • Remotely controlling student computer from teacher console (e.g. for demonstrations. Computers can also be powered on/off in this manner)
  • Restricting the use of certain applications or websites

Audiovisual services

Audiovisual support in common-use teaching spaces is available during regular teaching hours. For technician support during a lecture, or for service outside of these hours, please contact us on x56464.

More information is available on our audiovisual page.

Wireless microphone systems

Lecture theatres and advanced seminar rooms across all Griffith campuses are installed with permanent chargers with two wireless microphone transmitters.

Please visit the audiovisual page for a how-to guide and a full list of rooms that have wireless microphones installed.

Audiovisual lab

The audiovisual lab at Logan campus  is a test environment set up to replicate Griffith teaching spaces: a standard lecture theatre with videoconferencing capabilities, an advanced tutorial room and a standard tutorial room.

Before being placed into the live teaching spaces, the AV Project Team can test and confirm the changes they are making to the infrastructure to ensure its capability.

The AV Project Team is currently located in the lab, using the room as a development environment for quality control: making changes to AV equipment, developing code and trialling new technologies before implementing across campuses.
