My Drive vs Team Drive
With My Drive, all files and folders are owned by the person who creates them. So if this person leaves the University and their account is cancelled, their files and folders are no longer available. To overcome this issue, Google have created Team Drives to provide a shared space for teams to create and store files. Griffith will be releasing Team Drives late 2017 (details will be available from September)
