Both staff and candidates have defined roles and responsibilities throughout the Thesis and Candidature Review process.

Candidates:

  • Prepare and collate the documentation required for the milestone, following Academic Group content and format requirements.
  • Submit the TCRM Candidate Statement service request via myGriffith, My Research, My Candidate Centre, at least 2 weeks prior to your milestone seminar date.

Administrative Principal Supervisor:

  • Guide the candidate on the requirements for completion of the seminar presentation.
  • Arrange a date and location for the Thesis and Candidature Review Seminar to be held, in conjunction with the candidate and HDR Convenor. The seminar details will be confirmed via the online TCRM Nomination of Assessor service request.
  • Nominate the appointment of an independent assessor for the Thesis and Candidature Review Seminar to the HDR Convenor by completing the online TCRM Nomination of Assessor service request.
  • Distribute the candidate's seminar documentation for the milestone to the Thesis and Candidature Review Panel, as required.
  • Provide feedback to the candidate immediately following the seminar, and for inclusion in the TCRM Report (refer outcomes section).

Additional Supervisor(s):

  • Assist the candidate with the completion of the seminar presentation.
  • Attend the seminar (where possible) and provide feedback to the candidate immediately following the seminar

HDR Convenor:

  • Recommend the appointment of an independent assessor for the Thesis and Candidature Review Seminar, as nominated by the principal supervisor via the online TCRM Nomination of Assessor service request.
  • Confirm the date and location for the Thesis and Candidature Review seminar to be held, as recommended by the principal supervisor via the online TCRM Nomination of Assessor service request (or inform the Griffith Graduate Research School in advance, via email to hdr-milestones, where the Element has scheduled block TCRM seminar dates).
  • Arrange for a senior academic from the candidate’s cognate Research Centre or Institute to attend the seminar, where applicable
  • Chair the seminar, arrange for the panel to provide feedback to the candidate immediately following the seminar, and complete the TCRM Report (refer outcomes section).
  • Approve the milestone status of 'completed' or 'completed with conditions', or make a recommendation to the Dean (Research) that the milestone is completed and that candidature be placed Under Review (via the online TCRM Approval service request)

Independent Assessor:

  • Provide feedback to the candidate immediately following the seminar, and for inclusion in the TCRM Report.

Research Centre or Institute Nominee:

  • Provide feedback to the candidate immediately following the seminar.

Dean (Research):

  • Oversee the TCRM process and develop any additional guidelines or requirements within their Group.
  • Approve the appointment of an independent assessor for the Thesis and Candidature Review Seminar, as recommended by the HDR Convenor via the online TCRM Nomination of Assessor service request.
  • Consider and approve, or otherwise, the milestone status of ‘completed’ and that candidature be placed Under Review, or any other action deemed appropriate, upon receipt of a recommendation from the HDR Convenor via the online TCRM Approval service request.

GGRS:

  • Automated reminder emails will be sent to candidates 8, 4, 2 and 1 week prior to the TCRM due date.
  • The TCRM Nomination of Assessor service request will be automatically raised 4 weeks prior to the TCRM due date. The service request will be progressed to the Principal Supervisor for completion in the first instance.
  • The TCRM Approval service request will be automatically raised 1 day prior to the scheduled TCRM seminar date. The service request will be progressed to the HDR Convenor for completion.
  • Process completed TCRM service requests and maintain candidate records.
  • Update candidate TCRM due dates upon receipt of advice from the HDR Convenor of scheduled block TCRM seminar dates.
  • Notify the candidate of the outcome of the TCRM milestone.
