Supplementary assessment is a new item of assessment designed to provide the students with additional time for private study followed by the opportunity to demonstrate successful achievement of the major learning outcomes of the course.

Supplementary assessment is not available in programs where the program requirements indicate that no supplementary assessment may be granted. For courses where supplementary assessment is not available the Course Convenor must identify this clearly in the course profile.  For courses in which supplementary assessment is available the Course Profile is to state that a Pass mark must be achieved in the supplementary assessment item or exam to achieve the grade of 4.

Supplementary assessment may be awarded by the Dean (Learning and Teaching) or their delegate, to a student, who having submitted all the assessment requirements of the course:

  • receives a grade of 3 in a course; or
  • achieves an overall percentage equivalent to the grade of 3 or higher but has not achieved a pass or required minimum mark in one or more mandatory pass components of the course.

Further information regarding Supplementary Assessment please refer to the University's Assessment Policy.

This information will be extracted from this System for advice to the School Assessment Board when finalising results. This information will be forward facing to students on the Student View of the profile.

Convenors are required to indicate by selecting the appropriate response below, whether supplementary assessment is available in the course in accordance with section 8 of the University Assessment Policy. Changing the status of the profile from 'draft' to 'submitted' will not be possible if this section of the course profile has not been completed. To provide supplementary assessment Convenors are required to:

  • Select an appropriate Yes/No response to the question 'Is supplementary assessment available in this course?

Supplementary Assessment responses will not be copied across to the next offering of the course as the content will be removed when the profile for the next offering is generated. Convenors will need to add these details each time for the course is to be offered.

Responses will however, be copied across when manually cloning content from one iteration to the next in the same Trimester or Teaching Period.

With effect from Trimester 3, 2019, the Yes/No flags will only display where the grading basis of a course is that of 'Graded' or 'Medical School Grades'.  Where the grading basis is anything other than the two bases listed above, only the 'No' flag will display for selection.  The grading basis for the course will now be exposed in section 5.4 Other Assessment Information. If you believe the grading basis to be incorrect, please contact your Academic Support Officer in your School or Department.
